1. What is coaching?

Coaching is about long term excellence and is a professional and confidential relationship between the “Client” and “Coach”. It takes a holistic approach and considers every dimension of your life. It provides a simple, effective structure of support to assist you in moving forward in significant areas of your life. It's very much about the present and the future.

2. What's the difference between coaching, counselling and therapy (such as psychotherapy, hypnotherapy etc)?

Coaching focuses on the present and the future and does not dwell on the past. Coaching is not about telling the client what to do. Coaches tend to work as a catalyst in helping their clients to define their own way forward.

Counselling and therapies on the other hand, involve some form of personal-history analysis, with the client having to go into their past, for the therapist to find a suitable method of treatment.

3. How does coaching take place?

Coaching is a series of confidential discussions between the client and coach. The sessions usually take place by telephone (or SKYPE) or face to face. For example, the client telephones the coach for a series of discussions at an arranged time for an agreed length of time (e.g. 45 minutes, 1 hour etc) over a number of weeks.

During the coaching session, a good coach will focus entirely on the client’s needs. Prior to the first session, clients complete some forms / questionnaires to help provide focus for the first session. The coach works with clients to help them identify what they want personally and professionally, supporting them in achieving a balanced life they really want and love. The coach supports, encourages and motivates a client to go beyond their perceived barriers and works with them to help them:

  • Understand where they are now and where they want to be.
  • Remove obstacles.
  • Identify creative ways in which they can accomplish their dreams and aspirations.

A good coach will ensure you focus on achieving results and learn through your experience, to equip you with the tools you need to address future changes and challenges in your life — whether personal or business related. So it's very much about RESULTS for you!

4. How many coaching sessions will I need?

It all depends on your individual needs and requirements. Coaching is about long term excellence. My coaching focuses on clients achieving results and learning through their experience, to equip them with the tools they need to address future changes and challenges in their lives. Most clients report that around 6 to 8 sessions, over a 3 to 6 month period is about right.

Following the initial coaching sessions, if clients feel the need for additional coaching support, they can continue as and when required. For example, some clients opt for a monthly top-up session or return to coaching when faced with new challenges in their lives.

Coaching is about empowerment and learning, not dependency and I reserve the right to terminate the sessions if I feel it is in the client’s best interest.
